WATCH: Christmas… and all that JAZZ! [Full concert]

FREDERIKSTED – The 2nd annual Christmas… and all that JAZZ! concert took place on Monday, Dec. 21, at the Dorsch Center in Frederiksted. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s event was virtual, but it was no less special!

The band — including Eddie Russell on trumpet & keyboard, Mario Thomas on bass, Lennox Joseph on guitar, Kendell “KC” Henry on drums, and Hugh Clark on congas — played an amazing performance.

This year’s concert featured music from the holiday album titled “Eddie Russell presents Traditional Christmas Melodies” — a collection of popular holiday tunes presented with a Quelbe-Jazz twist to help fans get in the spirit of the season.

2nd ANNUAL “CHRISTMAS… AND ALL THAT JAZZ!” CONCERT

Jazz in the Park – Christiansted presents “Christmas… and all that JAZZ!” from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at Facebook.com/JazzintheParkSTX/.

The virtual concert will feature music from the popular holiday album titled “Eddie Russell presents Traditional Christmas Melodies” — a collection of popular holiday tunes presented with a Quelbe-Jazz twist to help fans get in the spirit of the season. The album is a fundraiser for the “Crucian Kids Rock!” free afterschool music program for at-risk youth.

“We’re inviting the entire community to join us online to help us sing along to the sounds of Christmas,” Eddie Russell said.

Jazz in the Park – Christiansted and Crucian Kids Rock! are initiatives of Community Music Inc., a nonprofit organization that promotes social harmony and educational enrichment through music.

WATCH: Jazz in the Park presents “Giving Thanks!” [Full concert]

CHRISTIANSTED – The Eddie Russell Quelbe Jazz Band took center stage in the Government House ballroom on Sunday, Nov. 15, when Jazz in the Park presented its “Giving Thanks!” concert.

The free virtual concert featured Eddie Russell on trumpet and keyboard, Mario Thomas on bass, Lennox Joseph on guitar, Kenneth “Afra” Dailey on drums, and David Bess on production.

The band played a Quelbe-jazz fusion of crowd favorites, and host Jamila Russell kept the online audience laughing in between sets.

The event was aimed at keepings spirits lively and thankful during the difficult, stressful days of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was also a fundraiser for Crucian Kids Rock! – a free afterschool music program for at-risk youth, which is coming to the DC Canegata Recreation Center once in-person services resume.

This concert was funded in part by Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. To volunteer or make a tax-deductible donation to support future free Jazz in the Park events, email donate@communitymusicinc.org.

FREDERIKSTED – Community Music Inc. presented an intimate live-streamed JAZZ performance on Sunday, Aug. 16, featuring Eddie Russell on trumpet, keyboard and vocals, Mario Thomas on bass, and Lennox Joseph on guitar.

Titled “Sunday JAZZ feat. Eddie Russell & Friends,” the Jazz in the Park virtual event was livestreamed from the Dorsch Center in Frederiksted. The concert featured many original compositions from bandleader Eddie Russell, which has turned into Jazz in the Park crowd favorites, including 6/8 Jungle Juice, Bom Bo Dit, and Pikey & Style.

WATCH: Emancipation Day JAZZ celebration [Full concert]

FREDERIKSTED – The rain came down on Eddie Russell and his Quelbe Jazz Band, but rain alone could not dampen the spirit of Emancipation Day. After a brief interruption, the band played on…

The Jazz in the Park Emancipation Day Commemoration concert was livestreamed on Friday, July 3, from the new Frederiksted Pier.

Trumpet legend Eddie Russell was backed by his Quelbe Jazz Band of exemplary musicians, including Mario Thomas on bass, Lennox Joseph on guitar, Kenneth “Afra” Dailey on drums, Ray Isles on congas, and David Bess on percussion.

The concert was punctuated by moving performances from Ras Iyame the Dub Poet, recounting the tale of emancipation in the territory.

Community Music Inc. thanks WTJX Channel 12 for livestreaming the performance, the Virgin Islands Port Authority for allowing the use of the Frederiksted Pier, and AARP of the Virgin Islands for its financial contribution.

FREDERIKSTED- Community Music Inc. will present an Emancipation Day Quelbe Jazz Concert featuring musical performances and dub poetry that commemorate the abolition of slavery in the Virgin Islands.

WATCH: “Music from the Shores of the Caribbean!”

HA’ PENNY BAY BEACH CLUB – COVID-19 restrictions prevented Jazz in the Park from hosting its monthly free concerts at the Fort Christiansvaern bandstand in March, April and May.

But thanks to the Ha’ Penny Bay Beach Club, the Virgin Islands Consortium, Broadband VI, and the VI Council of the Arts, Jazz in the Park came back for the month of June — by going virtual!

Themed “Music from the Shores of the Caribbean,” the virtual concert was livestreamed on Friday, June. 26, from the beautiful Ha’Penny Bay Beach Club.

It featured original musical compositions from trumpet master Edwin “Eddie” Russell and his Quelbe Jazz Band that includes Mario Thomas on bass, Lennox Joseph on guitar, Kendell “KC” Henry on drums, Ray Isles on congas, and David Bess on percussion.

The concert also featured a special youth showcase performance by Kevin Williams Jr. on steelpan.

Community Music Inc. thanks the Virgin Islands Consortium for livestreaming the performance; management at the Ha’Penny Bay Beach Club for allowing us to use their facility; and AARP of the Virgin Islands for its financial contribution.
