CHRISTIANSTED – A crowd of approximately 250 music lovers gathered around the Fort Christiansvaern bandstand on Friday, Aug. 30, for Jazz in the Park – Christiansted, featuring local music giants Stanley Jacobs on flute and Olaf “Bronco” Hendricks on saxophone.
Bronco and Stanley mixed it up with Brazilian Jazz (bossa nova), standard American pop and Quelbe, the official traditional music of the Virgin Islands. They were accompanied by Eddie Russell and The Community Music Band, who performed their usual crowd-pleasing fusion of Jazz, Salsa and Quelbe.
At one point, the local greats were joined onstage by 2019 Central High School graduate Shane Laurent on trumpet. Shane delighted the crowd with two spectacular solos — “Misty” and “There Will Never Be Another You.”
By all accounts, a fun, relaxing and delightful time was had by all!
