The event is appropriately themed “Christmas… and all that JAZZ!”
It’s happening from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20, inside the bandstand on the lawn of Fort Christiansvaern. There will be a Festival Jump Up in downtown Christiansted from 6-10 p.m., so we asking Jazz Friends to plan ahead for road closures and parking.
The Community Music Band will delight concert goers with songs from the just-released album titled “Eddie Russell presents Traditional Christmas Melodies“ — a collection of popular festive tunes presented with a Quelbe-Jazz twist to help fans get in the spirit of the season.
For a portion of the performance, the band will be joined by celebrated local vocalist Cherise King. A former Virgin Islands idol winner, King last wowed Jazz in the Park fans with a spectacular performance during our “Divas Night!” concert on Sept. 27 — a performance that landed her on the inside cover of the Virgin Islands Daily News.
Our Youth Showcase Performer will be Ricardo Richards Elementary student Jayden King Joseph on drums. Nine-year-old Jayden is sure to delight the audience when he joins Eddie Russell and the band for a jazz-influenced arrangement of the Christmas classic, Little Drummer Boy.
“Cherise and Jayden are mother and son, so clearly musical talent runs in this family,” Eddie Russell said. “We’re inviting the entire Crucian community to join us for a FREE evening of Jazz in the Park. Please come out and help us sing along to the sounds of Christmas!”
Happy Holidays to you and yours! See you on the lawn!
