CHRISTIANSTED – The Eddie Russell Quelbe Jazz Band took center stage in the Government House ballroom on Sunday, Nov. 15, when Jazz in the Park presented its “Giving Thanks!” concert.
The free virtual concert featured Eddie Russell on trumpet and keyboard, Mario Thomas on bass, Lennox Joseph on guitar, Kenneth “Afra” Dailey on drums, and David Bess on production.
The band played a Quelbe-jazz fusion of crowd favorites, and host Jamila Russell kept the online audience laughing in between sets.
The event was aimed at keepings spirits lively and thankful during the difficult, stressful days of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was also a fundraiser for Crucian Kids Rock! – a free afterschool music program for at-risk youth, which is coming to the DC Canegata Recreation Center once in-person services resume.
This concert was funded in part by Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. To volunteer or make a tax-deductible donation to support future free Jazz in the Park events, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
