HA’ PENNY BAY BEACH CLUB – COVID-19 restrictions prevented Jazz in the Park from hosting its monthly free concerts at the Fort Christiansvaern bandstand in March, April and May.
But thanks to the Ha’ Penny Bay Beach Club, the Virgin Islands Consortium, Broadband VI, and the VI Council of the Arts, Jazz in the Park came back for the month of June — by going virtual!
Themed “Music from the Shores of the Caribbean,” the virtual concert was livestreamed on Friday, June. 26, from the beautiful Ha’Penny Bay Beach Club.
It featured original musical compositions from trumpet master Edwin “Eddie” Russell and his Quelbe Jazz Band that includes Mario Thomas on bass, Lennox Joseph on guitar, Kendell “KC” Henry on drums, Ray Isles on congas, and David Bess on percussion.
The concert also featured a special youth showcase performance by Kevin Williams Jr. on steelpan.
Community Music Inc. thanks the Virgin Islands Consortium for livestreaming the performance; management at the Ha’Penny Bay Beach Club for allowing us to use their facility; and AARP of the Virgin Islands for its financial contribution.
This concert was funded in part by Virgin Islands Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts. To volunteer or make a tax-deductible donation to support future free Jazz in the Park events, email email@example.com.
